Nursery Admissions

Bishop Gilpin is currently consulting on proposed changes to its Nursery Admissions Policy for the academic year 2020/2021.  Please see below for details.

The Bishop Gilpin Nursery is led by qualified teachers and follows the Government’s “Early Years Foundation Stage” (EYFS) curriculum which sets out the key learning objectives from birth to age 5 (end of Reception). This promotes knowledge and develops skills in children’s learning in seven main areas:

  • Personal, Social, Emotional
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Expressive Arts and Design
  • Understanding the World

These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning activities. Within these areas there are separate Early Learning Goals which we aim for children to achieve by the time they finish both nursery and reception.

BG is a very happy place and the staff are friendly, warm and supportiveParent survey 2016

In the EYFS we follow the Bishop Gilpin ethos and aims, incorporating growth mindset and learning through the 4R’s. Click here for more information on Growth Mindset and the 4Rs at Bishop Gilpin.

The curriculum is excellent, and prepares pupils exceptionally well for the next stage of schooling. The activities prepared for the children in the Nursery are particularly creative and exciting.” Ofsted report, 2013

We believe that the nursery offers an excellent foundation for children transitioning to reception having experienced high quality nursery provision in a school-based environment.
